Seven-year-old, Carly Connor, of Marshfield hit the stage with Ayla to sing Ayla’s song, “Beat by a Girl,” at the Josh Turner show in Cohasset, MA. Carly is part of a program called, Over My Shoulder Foundation, a “…national mentoring initiative that uses music to raise awareness about the impact of mentoring both cross-culturally and cross-generationally.” Over My Shoulder Website
Before the show, Carly interviewed Ayla in her dressing room for the Over My Shoulder Blog, and the last question Carly asked Ayla was, “I know one of your songs, can I sing it with you?” After Ayla learned that it was “Beat by a Girl,” she was blown away and asked if Carly wanted to sing the song in front of the 2,000 attendees at the show that evening.
Carly rocked the stage and tore down the house with her rendition of Ayla’s song, and at the conclusion of the show Carly signed autographs for the first time to many adoring new fans. “She wouldn’t put the Sharpie down!” said Ayla. “I am so proud of Carly and her courage to get up in front of that many people and sing a song. I don’t know if I would have even done that at her age!”
